Nine winners see “A” team gain revenge but not aggregate point against Manor Road.

After last weeks humiliation at Manor Road, the Vics afternoon “A” team had nine winners yesterday to gain some revenge, if not the aggregate point, against their rivals from Wallasey. Skipper and Vice Captain, Billy Atkinson and Robby Franklin, both saw action for the first time in the afternoon League this season and both made welcome winning appearances, Billy winning 21-12 and Robby completing a best of the day 21-11 victory. The 4 single figure losers from last week, Bernie Owen 21-12, Mally Johnson 21-16, Dick Peake 21-16 and Peter Dodd 21-19 (against the same player he lost 02-21 to last week), all won to redress their terrible start to the season. Alan Hughes had a comfortable 21-15 win and Eddie Clayburn posted his first victory 21-18. Andrew Stratton, the only winner last week, completed a double over the same opponent but was involved in a tougher game this time round before coming out on top 21-19. All in all this was a good performance by the “A” team after last weeks debacle and even though the 48 shot win was not enough to gain the extra point, reputations were restored and prospects look a lot brighter. Next up for the Vics is a Centenary Shield match at Harrison Park against Lever Club “B”.
