Andrew Stratton, lone star for Vics in 96 shot hammering at Manor Road

The Vics afternoon “A” team, minus Captain and Vice Captain, had a dreadful start to the new season, with only one winner at Manor Road today. Andrew Stratton was the lone Vics flagbearer with an excellent 21-13 victory and if this first day of the season is to be a marker for the season, the Vics are in desperate straights. Peter Dodd (02), Malcolm Johnson (02), Bernie Owen (04) and Dick Peake (08) were all convincingly beaten in a humiliating defeat by a rampant Manor Road side completely dominating the days play. Apart from Andrew’s heroics, Alan Hughes managed to post an 18-21 card and Brian Ibbotson, stepping up from the “B” team to cover absentees, managed a respectable 16-21 scorecard. I can’t remember the last time a Vics first team suffered such a humiliating defeat which was doubly so for myself, considering I play evening bowls at Manor Road, or maybe not after today!!! Skipper Billy Atkinson will need to act with his usual diplomacy when trying to rebuild his troops confidence for next weeks return at West Kirby. 96 shots seems like a mountain to climb but if Manor Road can do it, so can the Vics.
