Vics finally overcome Oxton after match lasting over 2 weeks.

The Vics Birkenhead League side finally completed their home fixture against Oxton Conservatives last Monday and go to Oxton next Wednesday with a narrow 22 shot advantage. With the original fixture having to be called off with 4 blocks still to play because of the tremendous thunderstorm in West Kirby a fortnight ago the match was ironically completed on a glorious summers evening in Ashton Park. The Vics had 7 winners over the two nights with Colin Saville at his growling best in an emphatic 21-05 winning display. Mally Johnson 02-04 down at the height of the storm returned to complete an easy 21-11 victory in the sunshine. John Lloyd was not far behind when he carded a 21-12 win that was followed by Frank O’Neill’s 21-15 victory. Billy Atkinson had to fight hard to win 21-17 and Neil Sherbrooke kept up his impressive Birkenhead League form with a difficult 21-18 victory. Brian Leonard returned to winning form for the Vics with a tough 21-19 encounter to complete the Vics winners and allow them to take a narrow 22 shot advantage to Oxton next week.

Mally wins 21-00 to set Vics up for a clean sweep against Gladstone Squirrells.

Skipper Mally Johnson had a 21-00 victory last night to set his team on the way to an important 14 points to nil win against Gladstone Squirrells at West Kirby. Mally did say he tried his best not to nil his opponent but I thought I saw some pigs flying past my window as I was listening to his match report. John Lloyd had an emphatic 21-04 win and Brian Leonard, making a rare but once again match winning appearance in a 21-08 victory were the next best for the Vics in a steam roller showing against the Squirrells. Billy Atkinson and Neil Sherbrooke both contributed 21-10 wins to the cause and Anthony Thompson won again but 21-12 is not good enough from the new Wallasey Merit Champion to increase his averages lead. Robby Fitzpatrick was a comfortable 21-13 winner and a trio of 21-14 wins were provided by Robby Franklin, Dave Gilmore and Matty Gilmore. Jamie Fitzpatrick completed his usual victory for the Vics, 13 out of 13 now for him, with a 21-15 winning card and it was left to Karl Sherbrooke to provide Gladstone with any glimmer of hope for a winning card but Karl came up trumps when needed to post a 21-19 win and complete an emphatic Vics performance.

10 away winners at Buton’s but Skipper Mally still worries about 3 points lost

The Vics Wallasey side won comfortably at Burton’s last Thursday by 17 points to 2 but Skipper Mally Johnson is still concerned that the 2 lost games in this match could be vital at the end of the season in the Vics battle with Queens Royal “A” for the 1st Division Title. The two sides stand together at the top of the table with exactly the same number of points but the Vics do have a vital match in hand on Royal. Anthony Thompson, blazing away at the top of the Vics averages yet again, showed why with an emphatic 21-03 win that was closely followed by Robby Franklin’s impressive 21-06 victory. Karl Sherbrooke had a comfortable 21-10 win and John Devlin came off with a fine 21-12 win under his belt. Jamie Fitzpatrick 21-13, John Lloyd 21-14 and Billy Atkinson 21-15 all had relatively stress free victories but both Dave Gilmore and Neil Sherbrooke were made to fight hard for their 21-17 wins. Mally Johnson completed the 10th Vics winning card of the night in a difficult 21-19 game but unfortunately 2 of the Vics stand by squad this season, Bernie Owen and Eddie Clayburn, lost out this time in rare appearances for the Wallasey side this year. Mally is still fretting about Queens Royal but then again when is he not worrying about the supposed plot by the Wallasey Association to deny the Vics more glory in all competitions again this season.
