Narrow 4 shot loss at Heswall despite “Johno’s” jaunt in the sun.

The Vics Birkenhead League side suffered a narrow 4 shot loss at Heswall RBL last Friday despite Mally Johnson finally finding a green and opponent to his liking both at the same time. Mally had an excellent 21-07 jaunt in the sun on the brilliant playing surface at Heswall and with Colin Saville and Billy Atkinson both winning 21-12 the Vics seemed on course for a rare away win on this green. John Devlin posted a fine 21-16 victory against the Heswall “Skipper” and (dual All England Finalist) and Neil Sherbrooke continued his excellent Birkenhead League form with a tough 21-20 winning card. That was it for winning cards for the Vics but with three 16-21 cards and a 19-21 from Robby Franklin (it didn’t take long for Doddy’s curse to work !!! ) combined with a 20-21 from Craig Borbenneaux the Vics found themselves 4 shots adrift at the end of the night but comfortable aggregate winners over the 2 matches.
