Lairds “shipwrecked” as “Lean Machine” and “Prof” steer Vics to 4th consecutive win.

Cammell Lairds were shipwrecked at West Kirby last night as the Vics Birkenhead League side gained a 4th consecutive League win to set them up nicely for the anticipated tough match against League Champions, Gladstone, this coming Friday. “Rampant ” Robby was at it again with a typical, fast green, Franklin victory and with Mally Johnson 21-16 and Karl Sherbrooke 21-20 also winners in the first four blocks, the Vics took an early 13 shot advantage despite a slip up by Trevor Rodgers. The middle four blocks saw the Vics increase their lead to 26, with “Brutal” Brian Leonard a more sedate 21-15 winner than of late and “Shergar” Neil Sherbrooke weighing in a 21-13 victory. There was a tremendous performance from Club President and West Kirby’s “true gentleman of the green”, Dave Bosworth, who despite going down 19-21 proved yet again what an inspiration he is to the club as a late stand in for an injured Bernie Owen. Frank O’Neill produced his best display for the Vics so far, with an emphatic 21-11 win and Craig Burbeneaux continued his fine form with a tough 21-18 victory but is was left to “Lean Machine” Lloyd and “Professor” Bill to stamp the Vics authority on the match, with both John Lloyd and Billy Atkinson producing comprehensive 21-05 victories to finally sink Lairds by 68 shots at the end of a fine night’s bowling on a fast Vics green.
