“C” team start with 16 shot home victory.

The Vics afternoon “C” team got off to a solid start to the season, with a 16 shot home victory over Manor Road “C” at Ashton Park yesterday. On another unusually warm April day and with the green looking in a lot better condition than earlier in the week, the Vics got off to a flying start with a clean sweep of victories in the front four. The undoubted star of this display being a super performance from Andy Fergus in his 21-12 win. Bernie Davies also bowled very well to post a 21-11 winning scorecard and Eddie Dodd got his season off in style with a 21-16 win. Reg Armitage never believes in settling for easy victories and once again he was involved in a titanic struggle before eventually coming out on top 21-20. Lawrie Blackburn showed no mercy in his destructive 21-05 victory on a quick surface ideally suited to his style of play and with Bill Tottey coming out on top 21-19 after a tough battle of the left handers the Vics looked to be cruising to an easy win. Unfortunately that was it as regards to winners for the Vics but with John Brandon 18-21 and Harry Preston 19-21, The Vics had done enough to eventually come out on top by 183-167 and take the 16 shot advantage to Manor Road for a tough encounter next week.

Vics have 2 teams through to last 16 of the Five A Side Cup.

The Vics Wallasey League side got off to a flyer on Thursday with both the “A” and “B” teams easily qualifying for the last 16 in the Five A Side Cup. The “A” team had all five winners in an easy 48 shot destruction of a gallant sacred Heart “D” side. This was an exceptionally strong side fielded by the Vics, Dave Gilmore, Matty Gilmore, Robby Hall, Anthony Thompson and newcomer to the Club, Steve Nugent. I think this side must be classed as firm favourites to regain the trophy lost in last year’s final.
The “B” team consisting of Billy Atkinson, Eddie Clayburn, Robby Franklin, Mally Johnson and Trevor Rodgers overcame a tough match with Magazine Hotel “A” to eventually win by 7 shots. The overiding factor in this match was the unpredictable bounce of the Sacred Heart green in Moreton.
The Vics “A” team now take on Sacred Heart “A” at Queens 27, with the “B” team drawn against Hoylake Central at Harrison Park. Both games take place next Thursday 19th April at 6-15pm. There is a strong possibilty that the teams could clash in a Semi Final tie at the end of the month.
