Vics defeat Heswall by 36 shots but miss out on extra point.

The Vics afternoon “A” team gained revenge for last weeks loss away to Heswall RBL, with a comfortable 36 shot home win yesterday. Needing to at least win the game to stay in the title hunt, the Vics had seven winning blocks on a fast West Kirby green. Mally Johnson was the star man with an excellent 21-09 victory at number 9, showing his liking for a fast green as opposed to the slower greens we have been on so far this season. Ernie Peers came into the side from the “B” team to show he can play at any level with a fine 21-11 winning display. Robby Franklin and Andrew Stratton came in with 21-14 wins, especially sweet for Andrew after last weeks reverse at Heswall and Eddie Clayburn and Bernie Owen also redeemed themselves after disappointing results last week, with both winning 21-16. As an unbiased reporter however I naturally think the result of the day was Peter Dodd winning 21-17 after being 08-16 down. Although the aggregate point was lost, the victory did keep the Vics in touch with the leaders and the outcome of the next two matches against Harrison Park will go a long way to deciding how high the Vics can go this season.
