6 winners, 6 losers in narrow 19 shot win against Oxton Conservatives.

The Vics Birkenhead League side completed a difficult home match against Oxton Conservatives last night, with a 19 shot advantage to take to Oxton next week. With 6 winners each, this match was always going to be tight but with 4 winners at the front it looked at one stage as if the Vics might run away with the match. Ian Sherbrooke 21-10, Karl Sherbrooke 21-11, Craig Borbeneaux 21-12 and Robby Franklin 21-17 had given the Vics the perfect start and a 34 shot lead but with only John Devlin 21-10 and John Lloyd 21-15 winning from the last 8 Vics players on the green, Oxton fought back to leave the Vics an uphill task to claim the extra point next week. The big plus for the Vics was the form of the three newer players to the club, Craig Borbeneaux, John Devlin and John Lloyd who are all now showing that they are getting used to the vagaries of the Vics green.

8 single figure winners for Vics in destruction of Vikings.

The Vics Wallasey League side destroyed Quarry Vikings for the 2nd time this season when they completed a huge 114 home win on Thursday. With 8 single figure winners for the Vics, it was plain sailing most of the way in another cruise for Mally Johnson’s side. Billy Atkinson 21-03, Trevor Rodgers 21-04, Neil Sherbrooke 21-05, Dave Gilmore 21-06, Anthony Thompson 21-06, Robby Franklin 21-08, John Devlin 21-08 and Skipper Mally Johnson 21-09 were the Vics maulers on the night, with Matty Gilmore 21-11 and Bernie Owen 21-19 probably wondering what went wrong in their games against a side who, although well beaten, never gave up and indeed in Chris Barton, had a 21-05 winner themselves later in the match. The Vics strongest test of the season comes on Tuesday when they have been given the awesome task of trying to claw back a 60 shot Handicap against a side 4th in the Division One Table, Sacred Heart, in the 1st Round of the Presidents Cup at Hoylake Central.
