“B” team suffer disappointing 80 shot reverse at R.N.A.

The Afternoon “B” team suffered a disappointing 80 shot loss at R.N.A. yesterday, opening their season with only two winners on the day. Playing against a side who narrowly missed promotion last season on one of the most difficult greens in the League, the Vics got off to the worst possible start being 43 shots down after the first four blocks. Paul Lomax was the only winner in this group with a fine 21-16 victory. The middle four scored better but with no winners the deficit had risen to 70 with only two to go. Keith Etches produced an excellent 21-13 victory, to post the Vics second winning card but the final tally was a loss by eighty shots on the day. With only two winners and with four single figure losses the Vics have left themselves with a tough job in the return fixture next week. Skipper Derek Thomas will be hoping for a much improved performance from his potentially strong side in the weeks to come.

“A” Team open season with narrow 11 shot win over Champions

The Afternoon “A” team opened their season yesterday with a narrow 11 shot home win against last seasons Division One Champions, Manor Road. With the green a little on the slow side and unusualy a touch bumpy in places it was obvious from the start that a difficult match was in store for the Vics. With only a one shot lead after the first four, Andrew Stratton 21-16 and Eddie Clayburn 21-20, being the Vics two winners, hopes were resting on the middle four to increase the lead substantially. Dick Peake and Elwyn Williams both came off with excellent 21-08 victories but once again two losers meant that after eight blocks the Vics were only 12 shots up with the last two to go. Peter Walker had a tremendous 21-11 win but with another loser, making it five winners five losers on the day, the final tally was a narrow 11 shot advantage for the return next week.
