Vics again fail to deliver against Higher Tranmere.
09/07/2005 by admin.
The Vics Birkenhead League side’s only consolation from last night’s heavy 81 shot defeat at Higher Tranmere, is the fact that we have seen the last of them this season. With skipper Ian Sherbrooke once again having to dig deep into the club membership to field a full side, the Vics got off to the worst possible start with 3 single figure losses in the front four. Bob Jones once again showed his skills to stop the rot, with a brilliant display in a 21-16 victory. With another 3 single figure losses in the middle four, the match was well beyond the Vics and Peter Dodd with a fighting 17-21 was the best of the losers at this stage. Mally Johnson had a terrific victory by 21-11 over Anthony Thompson and is now regarding “Buzz” as something of a bunny for him in this fixture. With Neil Sherbrooke also in imperious form with a 21-08 win and Billy Atkinson fighting back from 10-19 to eventually only go down 19-21, the back four actually showed a profit of 6 shots for the Vics. The fact that the Vics had 7 single figure losers shows just how good a side this Tranmere outfit really is, as they also fielded a much changed outfit from last week. If only the Vics were fortunate enough to have a larger pool of players to play at this level!!! With the whole team staying right to the bitter end though, team spirit is not lacking at the club.
