8 winners not good enough for Vics in Frank Hurst defeat.

The Vics Birkenhead League side found a 60 shot handicap 6 shots too many on Wednesday night, when despite 8 winners for the Vics, it was Wallasey RBL who progressed to the next round. Trevor Rodgers 21-06, Neil Sherbrooke 21-07, Robby Franklin 21-08 and skipper Ian Sherbrooke 21-08 had looked to have done enough to send the Vics through to the next round and together with Mally Johnson winning 21-10, Karl Sherbrooke 21-13, Bob Jones 21-18 and Peter Dodd 21-19, the Vics should have done enough but the four losing cards 12-21, 14-21, 16-21 and 17 -21 saw Wallasey RBL go through by 6 shots eventually. A disappointing result for the Vics but maybe with such a small squad to choose from a blessing in disguise we don’t have any more extra matches to play.

“B” team go down by 32 shots at League leaders.

The Vics afternoon “B” team lost by 32 shots at R.N.A. on Wednesday but still gave themselves a chance of the extra point in the retun next week. On the small and difficult R.N.A. green, the Vics had just 3 winners on the day but with everyone reaching double figures all is not lost for next week. Ernie Peers, still producing the goods, home and away, was a 21-17 winner this time. Brian Ibbotson also won 21-17 and Dave Bosworth produced his best display for a few weeks with a hard fought 21-18 win. Paul Lomax and Ian Cameron both put in good performances before going down 16-21 and Lawrie Blackburn bowled well to only lose 17-21. C.K.Pau was even closer in a tough match eventually losing 18-21. All these close games kept the Vics within touching distance for a hopeful win and aggregate point next week.

Vics produce “Royal” performance as Queens go home “not amused”.

The Vics Wallasey League side produced a Royal performance last night, in defeating Queens Royal by 62 shots at West Kirby to send the visitors home ” not amused” by their title chances. With revenge in mind for the recent Harold Jones defeat to Royal and vital points required to keep up their relentless quest for a fifth consecutive title, the Vics stormed into an early lead when the Sherbrooke brothers Neil and Karl came in with 21-09 and 21-11 cards respectively. A crushing performance from Karl and a derby performance by Shergar allied to a much closer win from Dave Gilmore, 21-18, ensured the Vics the early advantage of a 21 shot lead from the front four. Robby Hall, justifying the faith put in him by skipper Mally Johnson, produced a brilliant 21-06 victory and with Anthony O’Neill 21-14 and Robby Fitzpatrick 21-20, also producing winning cards the overall lead rose to 40 shots after the middle four. Matty Gilmore produced a display to match Robby Hall’s with another superb 21-06 win and with Robby Franklin and Billy Atkinson posting good 21-13 and 21-16 winning displays, the Vics had triumphed by 62 shots at the end of the match to enable them to take a huge advantage over Royal for the away fixture on August 11th. Next up for the Vics, Marine Park at home on Wednesday.
