Trevor wins club championship.

Trevor Rodgers became the youngest ever winner of the club championship yesterday when he won the Presidents Cup by beating Tony Ryding in the final 21-12. Trevor bowled consistently well in the final and always had plenty in hand despite Tony failing to give up at any stage. In the earlier semi final Tony beat Billy Atkinson 21-14 with a magnificent display of lead bowls. Billy just could not force his way into the lead at any stage and was constantly trying to find ways past Tony’s 1st wood. Trevor’s opponent in the semi, Peter Walker had to withdraw under doctor’s orders. A good afternoon of bowling in hot sunshine was watched by a decent crowd of members and Don Ibbotson officiated at the prize presentation where club President Sid Dutton presented the trophy to Trevor.

“Shergar” wins at a canter but Vics go down by 25.

Neil “Shergar” Sherbrooke had an excellent 21-04 victory tonight as the Vics Birkenhead League side played the return match with Harrison Park at Wallasey. Shergar will be the subject of an enquiry as to what actually happened at hospital on Tuesday, when he had some treatment to his eyes. Never mind the Jockey Club, Ernie Gartland was not a happy punter!!! Peter Dodd continued his fine run with a good 21-12 victory and Billy Atkinson won 21-15. These however were our only winners of the night as Harrison Park won by 25 shots to reverse Monday’s defeat. The Vics did gain the aggregate point and it was a measure of their consistency that even with nine losers they only went down by 25. Ian Sherbrooke and Colin Saville were the best of the losers with 19 and 17 respectively.
