Vics outclassed in Sansom Cup Final as Gladstone have 10 winners.

The Vics dreams of adding the Sansom Cup to their trophy list were ruthlessy destroyed by a tremendous display of bowling by Gladstone Liberals at ESWA yesterday afternoon. With only 2 winners the Vics were completely outclassed on the day and Gladstone strolled to a deserved 76 shot victory. With Skipper Ian Sherbrooke the only winner in the first four with a close 21-19 victory, the Vics were down by 20. Colin Saville with a good 21-15 win, was the only winner in the middle four and the Vics trailed by 39 at the start of the back four. There were no Vics winners in the back four the eventual winning margin rising to 76. This was a very disappointing performance by the Vics following on from the previous night’s heavy defeat at Lever Club and new faces will be required next season if the Vics are to progress in the 1st division of the Birkenhead League. We are relying are too few players at this moment in time and unfortunately the strengh in reserve is not there with so small a squad. Congratulations must go to Gladstone Liberals who bowled very well on the day and we can also congratulate ourselves for in fact reaching this final with such a small squad of players. Thanks must also go to all our supporters for turning up and watching on the afternoon.

Robby sole winner in thrashing at Lever Club.

The Vics suffered a disastrous defeat at Lever Club on Friday night in the Birkenhead League, with only one winning card to show for their efforts. The front four managed to keep the score down to just 16 shots in arrears with Ian Sherbrooke 18-21 and Trevor Rodgers 19-21 the best returns. In the middle four Robby Franklin 21-15 proved to be our only winner of the night and Colin Saville managed a close 20-21 defeat but the arrears had mounted to 30 shots. With no winners in the back four the final deficit was a total of 69 shots to Lever and a big job for the Vics to pull back next Friday and take the aggregate point. Defeats of this magnitude are rare for the Vics and we can only compliment Lever on a good display of bowling on a fine green at Port Sunlight.

“C” team lose at Bronze.

The afternoon “C” team suffered a rare defeat away at Bronze on Friday afternoon. Scores and details to follow.
