Vital victory for Vics as Manor Road “mauled” at West Kirby.
23/07/2004 by admin.
The much awaited clash between the Vics Wallasey League side and Manor Road turned into another easy victory for the Vics against the only side to have beaten us this season. Once again Tony Vyskocil came up trumps with an easy 21-05 and with Karl Sherbrooke winning 21-08 the Vics were well on the way to erasing the memory of the loss at Manor Road. “The Vyk” and “Crusher” do have the welcome habit of being able to produce single figure victories in these crucial games. Anthony Thompson, still unbeaten this season, won 21-11 and Ian Sherbrooke, quiet but deadly, won 21-12. Robby Hall, anything but quiet, continued his run of winning every game, with a 21-15 win. Matty Gilmore, despite his opponent dragging his feet across the green all night attempting to slow the game down, won 21-16. Robby Franklin, Robby Fitzpatrick and Billy Atkinson all had close 21-17 victories. With Dave Gilmore and skipper Mally Johnson scoring 19 and Neil Sherbrooke 16, the Vics once again proved too strong for their opponents at West Kirby. Our last defeat at home in the Wallasey League was in fact against Manor Road way back in 1998. The aggregate point gained in this match means that the Vics are now well on the way to winning the League for the 4th year on the trot. There are still 8 games to go however and there should be no let up in concentration in any of these games. The strengh of the squad this year is awesome and is shown by the fact that we still had three players on the sidelines tonight in plus averages in league games.

“A” team through to Centenary Cup quarter final.
23/07/2004 by admin.
The afternoon “A” team progressed to the quarter finals of the Centenary Cup yesterday with an emphatic victory over RNA at Oxton. Having to give away 45 shots in the handicap, the Vics pulled back and overhauled RNA to finally run out winners by 22 shots. The top two in the league averages Billy Atkinson and Elwyn Williams turned on the style again, Billy winning 21-03 and Elwyn 21-04. Dick Peake, back to form, won 21-08. Bernie Owen and Mally Johnson both had 21-11 victories, no money changed hands there then!! Ernie Peers, standing in for skipper Brian Ibbotson, had a good 21-17 victory and Dave Bosworth finally triumphed 21-20 in a marathon encounter. With Robby Franklin and Eddie Clayburn both scoring 20 and Ian Cameron 17 all ten players had a good afternoon at the sluggish Oxton green.

8 out of 10 for “A” team in good 47 shot home win against Capenhurst.
23/07/2004 by admin.
The afternoon “A” team produced one of their best displays of the season on Wednesday, when they defeated the strong Capenhurst outfit by 47 shots at home. With 8 winners out of 10 the Vics proved too strong for their opponents and a solid display away next week could see the vital aggregate point gained. Elwyn Williams continued his fine form this year with an excellent 21-05, with Eddie Clayburn next best with a fine 21-11. Billy Atkinson continued to set the pace at the top of the averages with a good 21-12, followed by Ian Cameron 21-14. Robby Franklin and Bernie Owen both had 21-15 victories and Dick Peake kept up his return to winning form winning 21-16. Skipper Brian Ibbotson had a hard fought 21-18 win with only Dave Bosworth and Malcolm Johnson missing out this week. Displays like this will soon see the Vics stride away from the relegation area.

“B” team give leaders Laird close game but go down by 15 shots in away game.
23/07/2004 by admin.
The afternoon “B” team produced their best away performance of the season on Wednesday but still went down to a close 15 shot defeat at league leaders Cammell Laird. Stan Ridgway’s side had 4 good winners in Tony Ryding, a brilliant 21-09, Chris Williams with a comfortable 21-13, Don Ibbotson 21-16 and Derek Thomas a close fought 21-18. With Bill Spraggett, only losing to 20 and Stan Ridgway managing 18 and all four of the remaining team members Bill Powell, C.K.Pau, Lawrie Blackburn and Harry Preston also reaching double figures, the Vics have set themselves up nicely for the return game next week and the prospect of gaining the aggregate point.
