“Welsh Wizard” steers Vics “A” team to two vital points.

That venerable old Welsh Wizard, Elwyn Williams, was instumental in earning the Vics afternoon “A” team 2 valuable points in a narrow 19 shot home win against Upton Victory Hall yesterday afternoon. The Vics, embroiled in a relegation battle in the 1st Division, once again fielded a weakened side, with both George Morgan and Bernie Owen missing. Their replacements however did themselves proud, with Tony Ryding gaining a good 21-16 victory and Harry Preston only going down to 19. Elwyn Williams with an easy 21-07 and Malcolm Johnson 21-10 both scored heavily enough for the Vics to triumph even though we only had 5 winners on the day. Ian Cameron 21-15 and Dick Peake 21-20 being the two others to triumph. With both Brian Ibbotson and Billy Atkinson scoring 20 and Dave Bosworth and Eddie Clayburn in the mid teens the final result 191-172 was just enough although not for the aggregate point. With the team still to play the two sides below them, avoiding relegation should not be beyond them.
