Tony ( I bowled the corners well ) and Billy (I couldn’t have bowled better), lead Vics to close win over Upton.

After last weeks tremendous win at Upton Victory Hall, the Birkenhead League side were involved in a much closer match this evening at West Kirby. On a green much slower than of late, the Vics were indebted to Tony Vyskocil, who I believe “bowled the corners well” and Billy Atkinson, who “could not have bowled better”, where do these quotes come from? Seriously though both Tony and Billy had tremendous 21-04 victories which were to prove crucial to the eventual winning margin of just 13 shots. Ian Sherbrooke, Neil Sherbrooke and Peter Dodd all won 21-15 and Trevor Rodgers completed a 21-17 victory to give the Vics six winning cards on the night. Special mention must go to Dave Bosworth, C.K. Pau and Eddie Clayburn who all turned out tonight when we had a few players missing with both C.K and Eddie scoring good 19s in their games. With Colin Saville also just beaten to 19 the Vics had just too much for Upton who nevertheless put up a fine away performance. The Vics took the much needed aggregate point in this match.

Sunny weather, tea and cakes, eight winners, 75 shot win, what else do we need?

On a warm sunny afternoon today the afternoon “C” team defeated Burtons by 75 shots to continue their run at the top of the league. With three 21-09 winners in Ken Bidwell, Stan Evans and Ernie Peers, the Vics had and ideal platform for the big win to come. Bill Tottey 21-10 and both John Dodd and Andy Fergus with 21-11 wins pushed the total nearer to the final 75 shots advantage. Eddie Dodd 21-12 and Bill Powell 21-14 completed the Vics eight winning cards. There was a pleasant surprise halfway through the afternoon when a group of ladies from the United Reformed Church turned up with two trays of home made scones, cakes and biscuits which were soon all eaten. A very enjoyable afternoon all round.
