Harold Jones Cup final

The Harold Jones Cup Final will be played on Saturday July 10th at Manor Road Conservative Club, Liscard. The final starts at 6-00pm with Queens Royal providing the opposition for the Vics.

Vics have nine winners in “Regal” display at Royal.

The Vics much awaited Wallasey League clash with Queens Royal tonight, turned into something of an anti climax, with the Vics putting on a champagne performance in winning by 28 shots at the away green. This was a brilliant performance by the Vics on a green which looked as though it had not been cut for at least a week. With a close game forecast and the possibility of the losers falling too far behind in the championship race, the Vics front four all won to give the Vics a ten shot advantage. The middle four then pushed the advantage up to 40 by producing a clean sweep again. With Queens winning three of the last four cards the final outcome was Vics 237 to Queens Royal 209. We therefore take 3 points for the away win plus the extra point for the aggregate. All the first four games were tight affairs with Karl Sherbrooke 21-17 and Dave Gilmore, Ian Sherbrooke and Neil Sherbrooke all producing 21-19 wins. It was in the middle four where the Vics really piled on the agony for Royal with Mat Gilmore 21-10 and Anthony Thompson 21-11, confident winners. Both Robby Hall 21-17 and Tony Vyskocil 21-16 ( incidently running out from 08-16 down), came from behind to secure victories. Billy Atkinson 21-18, was our only winner in the back four but Robby Fitzpatrick, Robby Franklin and skipper Mally Johnson all did enough to ensure there was no escape for the home side. This win will put tremendous pressure on nearest challengers Manor Road in the run in for the title with Manor Road still having to come to West Kirby later in the season. It was good to note that all the Vics players not selected tonight turned out to support the team.
